We recently had an overnight stay in Nashville, TN on our way to Chattanooga for a weekend warrior getaway. We enjoy discovering new ways to camp, including in the heart of an urban metropolis, and in Nashville you can make this happen thanks to the RV sites located at the Nashville Fairgrounds. So if you are interested in checking out Tennessee’s biggest and fastest growing city, and are wanting a camping spot close to all the the action, read on to find out all you need to know about camping in this thriving southern city.

Location of the Nashville Fairgrounds
The Nashville Fairgrounds are located inside the Nashville city limits, in the southern portion of the city. Its location makes it easy to find (short distance from I-65) and close to all the action! The Fairgrounds are approximately 3 miles (7 minutes) from downtown Nashville’s Broadway strip where you will find the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Ryman Auditorium, and numerous bars and restaurants (many owned by music celebrities).
If the Grand Ole Opry is on your list, The Fairgrounds are only 12 miles (17 minutes) away, and Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage is only 16 miles (24 minutes) away. So you can see how this location is so convenient to explore this interesting southern
About the RV Park at Nashville Fairgrounds
The RV Park at the Nashville Fairgrounds is not a resort-type campground, but it is full-hookups in the heart of a thriving American city. The RV Parking area is basically a parking lot on the Fairground property, and advanced reservations are required. There are 10 spots available to reserve at this location and all are back-in. We found the sites to be just long enough to park for the night without unhitching our crew cab F-250 and 36″ travel trailer. Our cost for the night was $35 + tax, but the cost is increasing to $50/night + tax starting July 1 2021….still a pretty good deal for full hookups inside a major US city.
Amenities at the RV Park at the Nashville Fairgrounds
So, keep in mind that this campground is more about location than amenities. There’s no pool, no basketball courts, no hiking trails, or camp fire rings (no campfires allowed in the city limits) but there is quick and easy access to all that Nashville has to offer from this convenient location.
- All full-hookup sites (water, electric (30A & 50A), and sewer)
- Long back-in sites (long enough for us to park and not have to unhitch)
- Convenient location near downtown Nashville
- There is no official campground WiFi, but we found free Xfinity WiFi available
Insider Tips
- The campground runs on advanced reservations only…no showing up last minute and snagging a site
- Payment is due when you arrive (cash or check only)
- We found it a little confusing to find the camping area…basically drive around to the back of the exhibit hall area to find the RV parking
- We were told via email to check in with the guard at the Fairgrounds entrance…there was no guard and the entrance was a bit ambiguous…still we made it work
- All utility hookups are located at the rear of the campsite parking spots. I didn’t realize until after we were set-up that our sewer hose was about 1 foot too short! Fortunately we just backed up and dumped the next morning before we left, so be sure to back up completely if you think this could be an issue for you too.
